Tips For Lazy (But Chic) Girls

I’m a lazy girl. I like to lounge around, sleep in, and relax on occasion. And by occasion, I mean, like, everyday. This puts me in a tight spot because often I find myself waiting until the very last second to get ready. Do you know how hard it is to put together a killer outfit, a makeup look, and be pampered all in 15 minutes?? It’s insane, but it can be done. And I’m going to share my last minute secrets with all of you.

  • Clothes

Making an outfit can be challenging, especially when you just want to lay in bed all day. Some sites suggest picking out your outfit the night before. Well, I’ve tried that and 1 out of 2 things always goes wrong. 1) the outfit isn’t as cool as I thought it would be. Or 2) the outfit is not comfy AT ALL. I know not all styles are going to be comfy, but I’m going to class, not walking a runway show. I like to be comfy.

Basically, the key to a really good outfit (that’s also reasonable) is one or two statement pieces. The whole point is to stand out and these pieces will give you the upper hand.

My go-to statement pieces have turned into either my shoes, or my bottoms. For my shoes, any kind will work, whether it’s sneaker, high tops, boots, slip ons, whatever you desire. As long as they are unique. Right now have a wonderful pair of slip ons and sandals that I switch between.

These slip ons are incredibly comfy and different. These type of slip ons have been trending this summer, and I absolutely love my pair. I suggest getting a neutral color, so no matter what you decided to wear, you can just slip these on and you’re good to go.

And we also have these adorable sandals. (Please ignore my veiny feet). These are apparently a knock off version of a Steve Madden sandal, I think. These are also one of my favorite pairs of shoes because they’re light weight. I wore these all last summer and this summer, and due to the color I will most likely be wearing them throughout the fall.

Now, onto my next go-to statement piece: my bottoms. Basically wear anything besides jeans. I’ve come to hate jeans. I hate the feel, the look, and these feelings amplify even more for jeans shorts. I really just don’t appreciate jeans anymore.

Many of you may be thinking “what other kind of shorts/pants are there??” I didn’t realize they were other forms of pants until my last years of high school because everyone wears jeans. But as I write this, I sit in white linen shirts that I got from Old Navy. I have a striped fabric pair from Hollister. I also have a satin pair from H&M that I love.

And if you love jeans, mix them up a little. High wasted are literally always a win. You can’t go wrong with high wasted anything. Or there’s always the holes in the knees trend. And you could get really creative and get those jeans with the two different washes. You know, the ones were the pant leg is light wash and the seem is medium to dark wash? They’re all over Youtube.

My next tip to looking stylish with limited time is a button-up. I literally wear button-ups ALL THE TIME. They are just so easy to layer with. I wear them over t-shirts, crop tops, dresses, anything.

The combinations are endless. And it’s so easy. It makes you look like you put a whole lot of thought into it when you just threw it on. It’s also a great way to keep warm in class. Why are classrooms so freaking cold??? The world may never know. But now you can go to class unbothered because you have a handy dandy button-up. You can get these at pretty much any thrift store for like, $3 a piece. Just hit up the men’s section; it really doesn’t matter the size because the oversized trend is always a trend.

Okay so now that we got our outfit out of the way, let’s move onto our hair. I don’t know about y’all, but most days are bad hair days for me. Usually putting my hair into a bun or pony tail works. Sometimes it doesn’t. And I do not have the time to straighten it, or curl it, or whatever girls who have better time management skills do. Here are 2 solutions:

1) Wet your hair.

Sometimes when my hair is wet it is much easier to tame, and most of the time when I let my hair air dry, it looks like beach waves. I wet my hair completely, brush through it thoroughly until all the tangles are out. This is what I’ve been doing before heading to work. I will uploading an updated haircare routine on Wednesday so come back then to find out how I keep my hair silky smooth and soft.

2) Headbands

I actually love headbands but I always forget about them. They are perfect for getting your frizzy tangled mess out of your face. “Out if sight, out of mind”, right? Lol, I’m just kidding, but it all seriousness it’s pretty hard to look bad with a headband on.

I threw on this headband whenever my hair got way to puffy for me to be comfortable with. It just helps. Decorative headbands are the best, but really any kind will do. They instantly add style and volume to your hair.

Okay, so your hair looks great, your outfit is killer, but makeup is still in question. I was debating about talking about makeup because everyone likes to wear makeup differently, and for some, not at all. And any way you like to do it is the right way ladies and gentlemen. If you wanna see the look I’ll most likely be rocking on these early morning check out my minimalistic makeup routine. And if makeup isn’t really your thing, check out my skin care routine that can be done in the morning or at night.

I hope these tips help y’all out!! I know they are life savers for me. Let me know what works for you. I’m always looking for more ways to be efficient.

What’s In My Bag (for back to school)

I’m honestly pretty excited to start school this semester. I got some new supplies, which I’m super eager to use. The past school year was a hot mess. It was just constant running around and forgetting things. It seemed that no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn’t get organized. And if it wasn’t for me taking duel credit courses this year, I would be behind. So over the summer I decided to buckle down for real this semester and start taking care of my business.

Having your supplies organized and having a specific system in place can help a lot. In high school, I memorized everything. I have a great visual memory, so reading or rewriting the same phrases over and over again helped me pass all the tests. However, in college, the whole structure is different. A lot of the work is on your own, the note taking is continuous, and since you don’t get to see your instructor every single day of the week, you have to investigate some of the questions on your own.

I did not realize any of that last year, but I have now and it’s time to redeem myself. So anyways, let’s get into what I’m keeping with me everyday to keep me well structured.

(I didn’t include my school bag because I’m pretty sure I will be getting a new one.)

The first thing I want to show y’all is this makeup bad that I’m using as a pencil bag. This little egg guy is so inspirational. Whenever I’m feeling overwhelmed in class, I just look at it, and I’m like “yeah, me too buddy”.

And it’s literally the exact size I needed for my pens and prncils. Makeup bag for the win.

This little rectangular box is kind of like my organization station. I got this pretty thing from Staples, and it comes with post-it notes, an eraser, binder clips, paper clicks and magnets. I really love this, the only problem is that it isn’t secure. The little pieces keep falling out. I’m going to need to do something about that.

I like having the post-its being the same design. And I used them to label my $0.25 notebooks by class. I got 4 of these spiral notebooks, and a little journal one that I’m turning into a bullet journal for school. Here’s a peep inside:

I’m new to bullet journaling, but with everything going on now, with school and my first job, my somewhat second job, this blog, and just everything else that comes with life, saying I’m busy is an understatement. But I think this would be a cool way to keep me really organized. I want to do an entirely separate post about my bullet journal, so I won’t go too much into detail here.

Not pictured is the tiny stapler I bought myself, my hygiene kit that I bring with me that has an extra toothbrush and hand sanitizer in it, because honestly I just never know where I’m gonna end up these days. I’m thinking of getting more tiny bags to keep things in, because I hate when there’s a bottomless mess in my school bag. I’m hoping to develop a system that works well for me, and to keep this blog up and running on its feet.

I’m sorry for the late post. I thought I was going to have enough time yesterday to post, but I was mistaken. I know better now, and will keep adjusting to make sure I bring y’all the best content I can muster up!

Thanks for everyone’s support. Thank you for reading, liking, commenting, sharing, all of it really means so much to me. I’ll let you know how this new system goes, and share whatever tips I gain.

Fall/Back To School Lookbook

Summer time is dreadfully coming to a close, and although that means less time swimming, more time schooling, and no time to ourselves, it also means new fashion trends!! So it’s really not so bad.

I wanted to make a huge look book for you readers, and although I asked a few people to get involved, I sadly received a lack of participants. Nevertheless, I’m more than happy to present to you the looks I came up with, in collaboration with one of the cutest girls I have ever met.

Autumn (isn’t her name so appropriate for this post?) is an adorable young woman going into her senior year of high school. She’s a cutie, and I really loved working with her. Be ready to see her smile and firey red hair in upcoming posts.

Look at her glowing. She said that she doesn’t usually wear yellow, but decided she wanted to try something new. This dress is absolutely stunning, and can easily transition from work day to fun afternoon.

Her styling skills are inpressive. She paired this bright feminine dress with these super masculine Doc Marten’s, with yellow stitching. A subtle but effective way to bring an outfit together.

Denim is always a staple, but even more so for school this year I think. Wearing a lightweight shirt like this is the perfect way to stay compliant with school dresscodes. Y’all know I love a good button up.

This next one may be my favorite of Autumn’s collection.

She wore the same denim shirt, but in a different way, tucking it into her black jeans. This is the perfect example of why skirts like these are so great for the school season. It’s easy to create different looks using virtually the same pieces.

Aren’t these jeans the cutest? This outfit is so simple, but elegant. Sometimes less is more. Autumn said this outfit was really comfortable, and easy to put together. It’s so easy to see her confidencein this look.

Maroon, maroon, maroon. Is it really Fall without maroon? It just isn’t. Again Autumn shows us the art of simplicity and chic.

The lace and the maroon combination could not scream October any louder. This shirt was made for pumpkin season. Easy to style for back to school because it could be worn as is over pants or a skirt, and layered under a cardigan or jacket.

Last but not least, we have the comfy outfit. Autumn said she chose to do an outfit like this one because you don’t always feel like dressing up everyday. But wait:

A little detail in the back for some extra interest. There’s always a way to cozy but stylish at the same time.

Being comfy and cozy is always a priority during the school year. Leggings, an oversized sweatshirt, and some tennis shoes is the ideal Monday look.

Now, because Autumn is in high school, she is in school longer and more days than I am. She always has to abide by a dress code, which I do not. So my looks have a tad bit more freedom, but overall, I was going for the same things. Comfortable looks I wouldn’t mind sitting around in all day, and wouldn’t be too hard to put together in the morning.

Sweater season is back and y’all know I’m ready. I ventured deep onto the abyss of my closet and found this beautiful pearl.

I paired this soft F21 sweater with my chic H&M shorts. And I also grabbed this book that DEFINITELY read and didn’t just use as a prop.

I’m all about the tucked in look for every season, because I usually go for oversized everything. When it comes to fall, I traditionally wear sweaters, but don’t tuck them in. This year I wanted to try something new. I really like the concept, as you can tell with my next outfit.

4 syllables: Com-fort-a-ble. Easy way to look poor and like a business woman at the same time. Confuse them with your style.

I’m in love with this silhouette. The A line skirt simply can’t be beat, and the soft sweater. This outfit was out of my traditional comfort zone, but once on I felt better than I had all summer. I’m so ready for fall.

Beige and orange are quickly becoming my favorite colors to wear. It was red and black, but now I’m evolving. I see myself in many versions of these colors in the upcoming months.

Next though, may be my favorite of my own outfits.

Maroon, we meet again!!! Simply can’t stray away from maroon. Here, you see me behind the counter at the Jo’s NTCC location. I think I was looking at the rain, and remembering that I left my umbrella in my car.

This picture was taken before the previous one, when I was blissfully happy. This shirt, you’ve seen before in my 2020Ave haul. I’ve mentioned that haul like 20000 times, so you KNOW their products are soo good.

I tied this shirt into a rose knot just to add a little flavor. I like to do this when the outfit just needs something extra, and the shirt is long enough. It’s also a good way to create a cropped silhouette without cutting the shirt or tucking it in (because you don’t want to do that everyday like I tend to).

And these pants are actually maternity pants. Can you believe that? Thank the Gods of thrifting for this find. These little cargo Capri pants have saved my life on multiple occasions. Get yourself a pair for those cold classrooms, but lingering hot days.

That’s it this week folks. I know it’s pretty late, but finding help for this post put me in the gutter more times than not. I hope some of these looks inspire you this season. Have fun! Peace,

Emma Katy
