For those of you who haven’t discovered the world of bullet journaling, I am more than happy to introduce you. Bullet journaling is for those who like to create their own rules, draw their own lines if you will (literally). Basically, the process of bullet journaling is to pick a notebook, get creative/ productive, and stick to it.

To start off, let me explain what bullet journaling is, along with what it consists of. The concept of creating your own bullet journal is that it is completely customizable to your needs. Do you ever find yourself with a new planner you’re excited to use, but then after two weeks you completely forget about it? And since you forgot about your planner, you forgot about all your deadlines, due dates, and events? Yeah, that was me. Before starting bullet journaling, I was a mess. Keeping up with important things was alright. It was the little stuff, little tasks or personal errands that I just couldn’t keep track of. With college starting back up, I knew I needed a way to remember all of my assignments. I also knew that regular planners simply never work for me.

I found bullet journaling on Youtube, as where you find most of the best things in life. I really liked the concept of creating a little book unique to you, your life, and the things you care about. I thought bullet journaling would give me a chance to really stay on top of all the things that needed to get done, while also staying creative. Being creative daily is really important to my well-being, even more so than I realized. So far, bullet journaling has overall been quite a success. Since it’s been doing so much to improve my life, I’d thought sharing it with you would be a fun way to get us all in the productive mood. I don’t know what it is about notebooks, pens, and stickers that make me feel like I’m really getting my life together, but I’m here for it.

For our first time talking about bullet journaling, I wanted to show y’all my October spread. I really enjoyed the colors of this month, and looking at such a fall oriented theme everyday kept me festive. It was a fun way to embrace the season.

Now, I haven’t drawn in a really long time, so my doodles are a little rough. I got some stickers to help me fill the space. I used a gel pen, which ended up smearing a LOT more than I was hoping (learned that mistake). I also found this old coloring book that had a lot of leaves that fit the fall theme perfectly. I cut them out and pasted them in so I could color them whenever I felt like it.

Many times when people start their first bullet journal, as we watch the videos on Youtube, it is easy to get discouraged by the perfectionists. Many people have such great calligraphy and drawings, which is great for them! However, when you start trying to copy someone else, you find it doesn’t turn out how you like it because it isn’t yours. The beauty of this technique is to make it completely yours. Having fun is supposed to be a part of the process.

Here is my calendar spread. I really love how this turned out. Peep the tiny ghost on the bottom. I added the leaf stickers for an extra touch. I don’t have much on this calendar except for school assignments. I added the little “goals” section where the month ended, and my only goal this month was to save $250, which thankfully I was able to do!! Yay me.

The cool thing about bullet journaling to me is that you can create these unique trackers. For my first month trying this out, I decided to keep a mood tracker and an expense tracker. In order to track my moods, I was inspired to do this spread from a Youtuber I watched. I drew leaves all over the page, marked each one with 1-31 (days of this month) and designed a legend on the bottom to indicate what I was feeling that day. I usually don’t fill them out as the day ends because my moods change so much, that by the end of the night I could be feeling completely different. What’s been happening is I end up not filling this mood tracker out for about a week, and I have to think back to my overall moods. I kind of like this method because it makes me realize that I’m happier than I give myself credit for. Even if I consider a day bad at the time, about a week later I find a reason why that day was pretty awesome.

Beside that I have my expense tracker. Anyone that knows me understands that money is important to me (just like everyone else). Every time I read an article about saving money, they always advise writing down what you are consuming. I wanted to really put this theory to the test. Here I circled every time I bought food, which made me realize how I’m wasting money on fast food. I think I have more to fill out on this tracker as well, but after seeing this list I actually cut back on spending a ton. Every time I go to buy something I now think, “if i buy this, I have to write in my journal”. Shame overcomes me. I decide I don’t need it. It works. I recommend it.

Up above we have the weekly spread I created. This is where bullet journaling became tricky. Weekly spreads are things that every person struggles with. It takes a little time to figure out what works best for you. This spread seemed great at first. I thought I had enough space. I even had some extra room to draw a little quote and picture. But it turns out I really didn’t like this too much. I’m still trying to figure out how I want November to look. Brainstorming is in the works.

Lastly, I put the last few days on the right side (YAYYY HALLOWEEN) and then on the right, I put a page dedicated to October memories where I’m gonna print out pictures to have in here. I have it empty because there’s still new memories to be made. I like having this in here because this is where I document all the work related/ school related/ and even social related things in my life. All the important stuff goes in this bullet journal, so it will be nice to go back and flip through old memories. If you decide to start a bullet journal, or you already have one, I definitely recommend adding a page like this in yours.

Bullet journaling is a great way to keep everything in line. If you’re scattered brained, you can make your own book how you like it, instead of trying to work around the straight lines someone else finds organized. You can literally make it look like however you like. My only warning is that it can be time consuming. It takes a while to draw out everything in advance. However, dedicating so much time for it makes you want to actually use it. Making a spread for a month only takes about one afternoon. If you are a creative person, it’s a fun way to get that artistic vibe going while still getting your life organized. It’s a guilt free pleasure even.

Tips for Daily Care

In the midst of the hustle and bustle, there are very tiny gaps. And in these gaps lies the land of unhealthy foods, naps, and desperate attempts of getting dressed in a timely manner to get to class. We’re students. Or moms. Or hardworkers in general, and in the middle of it all, we waste the free time, and end up even more behind. 

So I am here to say that I too have fallen victim many-a-times to the grind. I have forgotten to eat, sleep, wash my hair, wash my clothes, and so much more due to working my a$$ off. But I decided enough was enough. 

So, here are some tips to use if you’re a busy buzz buzz bee like me. We got to help each other out, you know. I hope this works out for everyone. 

  • AS. SOON. AS. YOU. GET. HOME.

As soon as you get home, do the thing. The thing you were thinking about on the ride home. Whether it’s “I need to take a shower tonight,” or “I got to print this thing out,” or “I need to read Chapter blah”. As soon as you lock the door behind you and take your shoes off, do that thing. 

This will help you maintain a productive state. I know the feeling of your toes hitting your familiar floors and the urge to just crawl back into bed. I know that feeling well. That feeling is a close friend of mine. But sometimes, you just can’t always text back toxic friends. So block it out, and stay focused. 

If you get everything done as soon as you can, without distracting yourself with relaxation, when the time comes, you’ll be able to actually sleep. You’ll rest easy knowing that whatever you had to do, is already done. You may actually start dreaming again, with the peace of mind you’ll receive. 

  • A little victory is a victory 

Sometimes when people think of self care, they think skincare routine, polished fingernails, a clean room, and blah blah blah. The truth is, you simply can’t do everything everyday. If you don’t feel passionate about skin care, take it easy on the routine. Sometimes self care is as simple as brushing your hair that day. Don’t let the thought of relaxing stress you out. 

  • Eat something 

My main issue when I’m busy is that I don’t eat. I just don’t get hungry. Like I might once throughout the day, but otherwise I’m too worried about due dates and stuff to eat. This is very bad for me. It makes me tired, grumpy, and sick. If you’re like me, I recommend canned foods. 

Things like soups, green beans, and chili helped me out because all I needed was to grab a can out of the pantry and head to school. I didn’t have to wake up extra early and pack an Instagram worthy lunch, or spend a load of money on food. This isn’t always the healthiest option though, so pay attention to what canned foods you’re buying. 

I also recommend cereals. If you’re capable of eating cereal dry, that is the way to go. Or you could also try trail mix. This is an easy thing to prepare, that you can snack on continuously throughout the day to keep you full. 

  • Don’t forget about your passions 

I always tell people that one of the main reasons I started this blog was because I was so caught up in making money and school that I no longer did the things I love. Having a blog with an audience really keeps me motivated to continue being creative, doing the things I really enjoy to share with y’all, and remember what I’m working so hard for anyways. This blog has changed the route of my life in more ways than one. 

I’ve met good friends, figured out who my true friends are, tried new things, and it keeps me connecting to the hobbies and interests I have. Also, hearing back from you gives me encouragement to keep going, and whenever I have a bad day, I always remind myself of the goals of this blog. 

So yes, while making money and hustling is addicting, and it seems like you really are being productive, it can easily steer you away from your true goals. So make sure to carve out some time for reading, or writing, or makeup, or whatever it is that you like to do. This will help you mentally.

  • Sad days are sick days. 

A lot of people don’t understand that mental health is just as important as physical health. So if one morning you wake up and you’re literally in pain with a headache due to all your tasks, go back to sleep. Miss that day of school, or call in sick to work because yes, you are sick. Take some time to calm down, and when you’re ready, get up and finish whatever tasks are bothering you. Usually when I have a ton of homework, or my room is an absolute disaster, or I couldn’t sleep the night before, I just need to take the day off. Stress takes a major toll on you. Take that into account. 

  • Ask for help

Honestly, asking for help is not always easy for me. I like to feel like I have everything under control. I can say, “I did this and this and this with no help”. And that’s great. But you know what happens next? Now I’m exhausted, feel unappreciated, uncared for, and overwhelmed, when really, all I have to do is ask my mom, or dad, or my boyfriend, and they’ll be more than happy to help me. It is okay to admit that you actually don’t have control over every single aspect in life. 

  • You can look like shit 

Now that I run this fashion lifestyle blog, I feel pressure to dress up every single day. And sometimes, what I consider an interesting outfit, others consider trash. And lol, that’s okay. I have a great sense of fashion, but not a great sleep schedule. I don’t have to prove every single day exactly who I am. I can go to my Monday class wearing pajamas, and guess what. I’m still fashionable, just not today. I know a lot of times on self care tips or whatever they’ll tell you to dress up. They say something like “when you look good, you feel good”. And I say that’s it the other way around. When you feel good, you look good. So if you feel good in sweatpants and a T-shirt, or heels and a dress, then honey you are fire everyday of the week.

What’s In My Bag (for back to school)

I’m honestly pretty excited to start school this semester. I got some new supplies, which I’m super eager to use. The past school year was a hot mess. It was just constant running around and forgetting things. It seemed that no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn’t get organized. And if it wasn’t for me taking duel credit courses this year, I would be behind. So over the summer I decided to buckle down for real this semester and start taking care of my business. 

Having your supplies organized and having a specific system in place can help a lot. In high school, I memorized everything. I have a great visual memory, so reading or rewriting the same phrases over and over again helped me pass all the tests. However, in college, the whole structure is different. A lot of the work is on your own, the note taking is continuous, and since you don’t get to see your instructor every single day of the week, you have to investigate some of the questions on your own. 

I did not realize any of that last year, but I have now and it’s time to redeem myself. So anyways, let’s get into what I’m keeping with me everyday to keep me well structured. 

(I didn’t include my school bag because I’m pretty sure I will be getting a new one.)

The first thing I want to show y’all is this makeup bad that I’m using as a pencil bag. This little egg guy is so inspirational. Whenever I’m feeling overwhelmed in class, I just look at it, and I’m like “yeah, me too buddy”.

And it’s literally the exact size I needed for my pens and prncils. Makeup bag for the win. 

This little rectangular box is kind of like my organization station. I got this pretty thing from Staples, and it comes with post-it notes, an eraser, binder clips, paper clicks and magnets. I really love this, the only problem is that it isn’t secure. The little pieces keep falling out. I’m going to need to do something about that. 

I like having the post-its being the same design. And I used them to label my $0.25 notebooks by class. I got 4 of these spiral notebooks, and a little journal one that I’m turning into a bullet journal for school. Here’s a peep inside:

I’m new to bullet journaling, but with everything going on now, with school and my first job, my somewhat second job, this blog, and just everything else that comes with life, saying I’m busy is an understatement. But I think this would be a cool way to keep me really organized. I want to do an entirely separate post about my bullet journal, so I won’t go too much into detail here.

Not pictured is the tiny stapler I bought myself, my hygiene kit that I bring with me that has an extra toothbrush and hand sanitizer in it, because honestly I just never know where I’m gonna end up these days. I’m thinking of getting more tiny bags to keep things in, because I hate when there’s a bottomless mess in my school bag. I’m hoping to develop a system that works well for me, and to keep this blog up and running on its feet. 

I’m sorry for the late post. I thought I was going to have enough time yesterday to post, but I was mistaken. I know better now, and will keep adjusting to make sure I bring y’all the best content I can muster up!
