April Ipsy Unboxing

Alrighty, so I got another Ipsy package this month and it’s time to share with you lovely readers what I got. This package I’m a little ehhhhhhh about, but you can decide for yourselves if these month’s box is yay or nay.

Every package comes with a little makeup bag. I like this idea, but I also find it quite useless because I don’t need so many little bags. I DO adore this month’s bag though. It’s in the shape of an admintions ticket. I think that’s so cute. This first thing is a yay from me. I absolutely love the coral color, the font, and especially the material. It’s like a sturdy leather that seems pretty liquid resistant. As soon as I figure out a use for this bag, I will use it.

This next cute little bottle that looks like it came from a hotel bathroom is a face toner. It’s made in Italy, so that’s pretty cool and it smells kind of like chocolate. Now, I’m kind of picky about what products I put on my face and since I’m already having breakouts from stress, I’ve decided not to use this product yet. I think I may try using it to dampen my eye shadows that tend to be kind of stubborn, but I don’t know. This product is just a ? for me right now.

Here we have another lip care product, and I really can’t get enough of these so I’m down for more and more. The packaging of this product reminds me a lot of Glossier packaging because it is sleek and simple. I like the applicator, but I don’t see much of a difference between this product and any other you could find at the drug store. I think this is a yay though.

This next thing is a nail polish or nail “lacquer”. I haven’t tried this yet but right off the bat this is a nay. The reasons why are because 1) I already have a TON of nail polishes. 2) I have at least 3 polishes in this exact shade. And 3) getting nail polish when you’re expecting face makeup is kind of underwhelming. However, none of these reasons are Ipsy’s fault, and none of these have to do with the actual product itself.

I’ve used so many different polishes from many different brands, and so many claim to be chip resistant and blah blah blah. My hopes for this one being any different from other nail polishes doesn’t exist frankly. I do appreciate the variety of colors in this package though. We went from coral, to yellow, to a blue already.

Next we have a loose powder highlight. I’m super excited to use this because I think it will be gorgeous in my inner eyes, on top of eyeshadow, or to dust on my cupid’s bow. I couldn’t get a very good picture of the actual product because it is kind of messy, but very very sparkly. Its a beautiful champagne color. This is a yay.

And lastly we have this:

I haven’t even taken it out of the wrapper. I am never going to use this. Okay I get it. Unicorns! wow, cute, awesome. No. Not this. The handle has this cartoony rainbows and unicorn sticker material. This brush all around looks cheap and childish. There may be others out there that LOVE this. Those people are probably way more fun than me, but when I pulled this out of my Ipsy package I was horribly surprised. Luck of the draw I guess. The only thing I like about this brush is how the bristles go from white to a soft pink. However I could get the same thing from a Wet n Wild brush collection without the little unicorns staring up at me. Define nay, no way.

Overall, I would say that Ipsy is still a good investment for trying new things. I’m still going to stay subscribed, and I understand it’s a gamble every month. The only thing is that I am going to need more space if I keep getting all these products. One thing I do love about Ipsy is the variety of types of products you get. Thank you for reading, and have a good day!!!

Fall Beauty Essentials

Fall Beauty Essentials

Last week I did a post about 5 cozy fashion essentials you need this fall. I thought it would be fun to keep the theme going and write about some beauty essentials needed and loved by me. Fall isn’t only the best time to dress for. I’ve been upping my game this season, especially with hydrating my skin, so I wanted to share all the products I’ve been using in hopes you’d love them just as much as I do.

To start off, I wanted to talk about lip balm. Taking care of my lips is really important to me this time of year. I have a really bad problem getting dehydrated, and it’s always the worst during the fall-winter time. My lips are the worst tell-tale sign of this. Every year it’s “your lips are so chapped”, “you should drink more water”, and my personal favorite “you should like, lick your lips or something”. I think it has to do with the wind constantly blowing against my face. You’d think it’d be the other way around, where I’d get chapped lips in the summer, but that is not so. I’ve been making sure to exfoliate my lips and then apply this lip balm that I got from one of my Ipsy packages. I also put this on at the start of doing my makeup to hydrate my lips throughout my routine before putting on lipstick. It’s been doing a great job at taming my chapped lips lately, and the orange is very festive for the fall season. Click on the picture to get your own in either Rose Blossom, Mint, or Honey (like mine).

I got this nail polish in my most recent Ipsy box (they’ve been sending me such great stuff lately). If you read that post, you’d know I was skeptical of this polish. It claims to restore nails and protect against toxins. I still don’t know if that’s true, but I have to say I love this color. It’s beautiful for this time of year, and the application is so nice. You know how sometimes when you apply nail polish and there’s those streaks? This nail polish doesn’t really do that. I hope the other claims ring true. I’m planning on wearing this color for awhile. It stands out against the crowd because it seems like everyone is doing forest green or burnt oranges nails right now. While those colors are festive as well, to me they’re just not moody enough for the vibe of the fall time. The picture up above will take you where you can try this stuff out for yourself.

Hydration, hydration, hydration. This OH HONEY lotion smells so good. If you haven’t noticed already, I think I mentioned to y’all before that I’m trying to do this new thing where I pick a certain smell and stick with it throughout the month or so. I originally decided to do this to help me get through all of my lotions or perfumes of Christmas and birthday past. I chose honey for October and I’m glad I did. Doing this has brought me to new products I would’ve never tried before. Anyways, as mentioned before, hydration will be a big deal for me, as I believe it will for most people. There’s something so drying about the cold. I’ve really been loving this lotion lately. It’s a hand lotion, but I’ve been using it all over my body. It makes me all soft and smooth. It’s compact size makes it perfect for taking with you on the go.

You may recognize this picture from my Double Ipsy Unboxing. Did you think I was playing around when I said I pick a scent and stick with it? Because I really wasn’t. I’ve been using this exfoliate every shower to help remove my makeup. It helps my skin feel fresh. I’m running out so I guess I’ll have to buy the full version soon. This product has opened my mind a lot to the world of skin exfoliates. I love it so much. I’m so glad I decided to put it to the test. My only complaint is that it ran out so fast! I need more already. This honey exfoliate is so good, I’ve even added to my skin care routine. You have to try it. The picture should redirect you.

You’ve heard me talk about this palette before. And look at it. How could I not? You’ve seen me create numerous looks with it, and there will most likely be more to come.  What lies before you on your screen is the ABH Subculture palette. I’ve used this eye shadow palette nearly everyday since the day I purchased it. I love it, honestly, truly. There’s so many looks possible with this bad boy, from natural to dramatic, subtle to obnoxious. It’s great for building wearable looks. One thing I’ve loved about this palette is that it’s helped me blossom with wearing darker colors on a more regular basis. There’s something just so daring about this color selection that makes me want to master the art of them all. It is the embodiment of Autumn, if I ever did see such a thing. This has been one of the best buys I’ve ever made in my entire makeup-loving history.

Thank you all for reading, as always. These beauty essentials keep me feeling festive, and I hope they do the same for you! Until next time,

Updated Skin Care Routine

“Give me clear skin or give me death!”

-Every teenager ever

Skin care was never much of a bother for me before this summer. Recently, its become something I care about a lot. It’s probably due to my new minimalistic makeup routine. Since I’m wearing less foundation, that means less coverage. So it’s been more important for me lately to make sure my skin is properly taken care of.  I’m so glad I ventured down this skin care path because now I feel more confident going out with less makeup, which is great for a season as hot as this one. And if you’re in school or you work early, a skin care routine at night is a good way to protect yourself if you don’t feel like putting on a full face of makeup the next morning.

I don’t use very much, but what I use has so far been very effective. I find that rotating between some of these products is very helpful in keeping my skin clear longer.

The first thing I wanted to share is this lotion. Really any lotion will do the trick, but this is the one I’ve been using. I’m on a vanilla craze right now and this smells so good. I put this on my arms and legs right after I get out of the shower. It softens my skin while leaving behind a nice scent. I used to just let lotions sit forever and ever, but now that I’ve decluttered, I’ve made a pact with myself to use up every single lotion one by one. I’ll be sad the day this is all gone, because then I’ll have to smell different.

This next product I’ve been using pretty regularly. I think Neutrogena has some of the best quality acne treatments out there. They can be on the pricey side but this little tube has lasted me for months because you only need a small amount each time you use it. I’m pretty sure this is supposed to go on pimples that already exist, like a post-treatment but I use this to prevent pimples from coming. It works really well when I use it daily. I apply this on my face right after I take a shower and I can feel it tighten my face, if that makes any sense. Just go buy this stuff if you have medium oily skin. It’s great. It’ll dry you out real quick.

These two tiny things are two of the prettiest things I own. I got these as a birthday present from Sephora, so if you have a birthday coming up, get a Sephora membership card and get yourself some of this. I believe it’s French which makes me feel luxurious. But it also sucks because I can’t read any of it. There’s little pieces in English, but overall I was really intimidated when I got this. I’ve never used a “serum” before so I was sceptical. Basically you drip drop the serum onto your trouble areas of your face, then rub it in. (P.S. this stuff smells AMAZING). Next you apply the creme that’s in the pink bottle. This is supposed to help reduce dark spots. After using it, the first few days I noticed a more even skin tone, less blotchiness, and my acne dark spots -the kind you get from picking at pimples- had pretty much vanished. I was so surprised. Thanks a lot Sephora. Now I have to buy the big size. Clear skin or fooooddd??? The question troubles me time and time again. I apply this after I apply the acne treatment, and always after a shower. And I always apply it in the morning. My skin care routine basically happens after my showers.

I’ve taken so many pictures of this stuff for you guys. First in an Ipsy unboxing, then my makeup routine, and now here. I love love love love this stuff. I use this as the base of my makeup, and even though you’ve already heard me rave about this stuff, here we are again. When I don’t use this Italian face toner, I’m self conscious all day. I’ve been using this for awhile now. I noticed my redness has gone down and my pores seem smaller. It just creates a more even skin tone. I do notice that if I don’t use this regularly, my blotchiness comes roaring back into existence and no honey, that’s not pretty.

I’ve just gotten into investing some time into my skin care. I’ve been DYING to try out some Glossier products.

My friend Maddie talks about them all the time. There products are great for people with oily skin. Look how gorgeous and glowing she is.

She talks about their products on her instagram: @weirrdhoney. I’m thinking about investing in some Glossier products after I finish my French stuff, as to keep with my minimalistic tactic.

If you’re interested in using these products, be sure to check out her rep profile. She has a video explaining her favorite products and how they can be helpful to people with a similar skin type. I’m really interested in their serums, now that I’ve gotten obsessed.

Having a skin care routine to follow helps me feel like I’m taking better care of myself. It makes me feel more confident on those days when I really just don’t feel like wearing makeup. I thought this would help those of you struggling with acne, heavy foundation, new college schedules, and all the buzzy bees out there that need something simple.

Thank you for reading. You guys are the best. Make sure to come back next Wednesday for a hair care routine!!!

Peace,

Emma Katy
