Sushi Obsession

If you follow me on Snapchat, you know that I love sushi. There’s always room for it in my happy belly, and it’s incredibly good for you. So since I love sushi so much, I figured I should invite my friends to try it out and explore some health benefits that come alone with eating sushi on a regular basis. 

Depending on what kind of sushi you prefer, the health benefits will differ. But usually all sushi contains rice and rice vinegar that helps the sushi stick together. Rice is a good grain to eat, and accompanied by seafood and veggies makes sushi an ultimate healthy food. 

The most important element of sushi is the seafood. Fish contain different levels of Omega-3 fatty acids. These are considered to be good fats, and help balance out the cholesterol in your body to prevent clogged arteries. 

Nori, the seaweed staple in sushi rolls, is also beneficial to consume because it contains vitamins such as Vitamin A, B-6, and C. And of course the veggies that come on sushi rolls is healthy for you. Options like carrots, cucumbers, asparagus, and green onions are packed full of nutrients. 

I ate this entire helping of sushi in one sitting. The best part about it is that afterward I was full, but not exhausted. I felt like I had a lot of energy, which is good considering I have to park a little ways away from the sushi shop sometimes. To ensure you get the best health benefits out if your sushi, limit your use of soy sauce. Soy sauce is delicious, and I’m notorious for loving it, but it is full of sodium. I’m not saying don’t eat it, just use it cautiously. 

And let’s not forget about the sides that come along with a sushi meal. I usually get edameme, but there’s plenty of other healthy options you can find available. Our sushi shop offers cucumber salad, miso soup, wontons, and other delicious treats to accompany your sushi rolls. I consider sushi to be a great way to satisfy my appetite, while also maintaining a healthy diet. 

If you’ve never tried sushi before and are afraid of it (like I once was), try to find something that already has what you like. For example, I first tried a sushi roll with salmon, avocado, and cream cheese. Some may think that sounds disgusting, but to me it was a dream. Now I’m more adventurous with what I try, and have yet to be entire grossed out.
